Jim and Bob learn about...
...The Creation
(Puppets up)
Jim: Hey, Bob! Whatcha reading?
Bob: Hey Jim! Oh, I’m reading about the Creation from Genesis 1.
Jim: The what?
Bob: You know, how the Earth was created?
Jim: Oh. I’ve never really thought about it.
Bob: I learned all about in Church today. Want to hear the story?
Jim: Well, ok!
Bob: Okay. Well, in Genesis 1:1-
Jim: That’s the first verse in the Bible, isn’t it?
Bob: That’s right! Anyway, Genesis 1:1-3 says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth. And the Earth was without form, and void, and darkness on the face of the deep. And the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said “Let there be Light!” and there was light.”
Jim: What?! He just SPOKE, and Light appeared?
Bob: Not just light, Jim. Not just light. This verse tells us the earth was empty. It was like a dark hole. Then God filled it with LIGHT! And this all happened in ONE DAY!
Jim: One? Really?
Bob: That’s right. This shows how powerful God really is.
Jim: That’s true, Bob. That’s true. Anyway, you said that God created other things?
Bob: He did. In verse 6, we learn he created a firmament.
Jim: What’s a firm-mint?
Bob: Fir-ma-ment. Just a fancy word for big open space. Genesis 1:6-7 says: “Then God said let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. Thus God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.”
Jim: That was a lot of flerm-vents, there, Bob. Mind telling me what you just said in English?
Bob: (Laugh) God was just creating the sky and oceans here. This is the second day of creation. Before Day 2, there was no sky.
Jim: No sky?
Bob: No sky. Until after God Created the firmament.
Jim: Ok, Bob. Enough about farm-bits. What did God do the next day?
Bob: On day three, something exciting happened. Genesis 1:9 says “Then God said ‘Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together in one place, and the dry land appear’; and it was so.” On day three, God created LAND!
Jim: Wow! That’d be an important day!
Bob: Yup, it was! But not only did he create land, he created all of the trees, flowers and plants!
Jim: What?! That’s awesome!
Bob: I know! Think of it: God SPOKE, and land and trees appeared. Not even the smartest man could do that.
Jim: Too true, Bob. Too true. So, on day four did he fill the land?
Bob: No. He shifted his attention to the heavens he created in the beginning. Verses 14-15 say: “Then God said let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons and for days and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth; and it was so.” Here, God was creating the Sun, the moon, and the stars.
Jim: Oh! So God was filling this form-ment with lights?
Bob: Exactly! And that was day four.
Jim: This is getting good, Bob. What happened on day five?
Bob: Genesis 1:20 says: “Then God said ‘let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament.’” Here, God was making everything in the ocean, and everything in the sky. Birds and fish were day five’s creation.
Jim: Wow, Bob. That’s so coo-wait. FISH were alive before HUMANS?!?!?!!?
Bob: That’s right! And birds were too.
Jim: Oh, man. Birds and fish are older than me! So, that was all on day five?
Bob: That was it. Think about it: Day five was the first day in which God created animals. Fish, Dolphins, and Whales were created on this day.
Jim: That’s Dolphintiltey awesome!
Bob: (Laugh) Good one. But enough about Day five. Do you want to hear about Day six?
Jim: YES! I’ve been DYING to hear about it since you started.
Bob: All right. Here we go. Genesis 1:24 says: Then God said “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind; cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth each according to its kind.” and it was so.
Jim: So here, God was creating all of the land animals?
Bob: That’s right. Every animal that was EVER on land on planet Earth was created on day six.
Jim: Awesome. Keep going, keep going. This is getting good!
Bob: All right. Hold onto to your seats, kids. This is about to get good.
Jim: I don’t have a seat.
Bob: I wasn’t talking to you.
Jim: Then who were you talking-(pretends to see the kids) Oh. Ok. Continue.
Bob: Verse 26 says: Then God said “Let Us make man in our image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
Jim: WHOA! On Day six God created HUMANS?!
Bob: Well, HUMAN. There was at first just one. Kids, do you know his name? (Let them answer) Adam! The first human’s name was Adam.
Jim: The verse said he had dominoes over the animals? What did that mean?
Bob: Not dominoes. Dominion. It basically means that Adam was in charge of ALL of the animals of Earth.
Jim: Oh, I get it. And God was in charge of Adam!
Bob: Exactly. And do you know what God did on Day seven?
Jim: There’s a day seven?! What did he create then?
Bob: Nothing.
Jim: Noth-What?!
Bob: Genesis 2:2 says: And on the seventh Day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.” Here we’re told God had finished creating the world.
Jim: Wow. So that’s the Creation story, Bob?
Bob: Well, it is a story, Jim. But it’s true. So this is the TRUE story of Creation.
Jim: God is awesome, isn’t he?
Bob: That he is, Jim. That he is.
